Research Abstract |
Collapse of structures occurs when structural systems can no longer
carry gravity loads. Columns are the most critical elements in collapse
analysis of reinforced concrete (RC) buildings. Although a significant
number of experiments were conducted to study the behavior of RC columns,
only
a limited number of these tests were continued until collapse of the
columns. In this research, experimental tests will be conducted on four
RC columns up to the point of collapse. Conventional as well as advanced
sensors will be utilized to better understand and model the collapse
mechanism of RC columns under seismic actions. Such a model can be used
in seismic collapse assessment and rehabilitation of RC buildings. |
