Research Abstract
In this study, flame speed and shape will be investigated. Experimental research will be conducted using two vessels, spherical and cylindrical systems. Premixed fuel-oxidizer mixtures will be centrally ignited in the spherical vessel. Dynamic rise of pressure will be measured. A thermodynamic model will be used to calculate flame speed as a function of unburned gas temperature, pressure and fuel-air mixture equivalence ratio. Experiments will be done for different fuel-air mixtures at different initial temperatures and pressures. The cylindrical vessel has two large windows for optical measurements. A camera with capability of 8000 frames per second is used to observe flame propagation. Flame shape, cracks and cellularity will be investigated using the optical set up.
